Updates From Your Principal

NicoleAssisi Hello Da Vinci Families,

March sure was exciting! I always love seeing all the great work our students create during class and then show off at Exhibition. It is such a joy to have all of our students share their learning with the community.

I want to take a moment to welcome our new families who are joining us for 2013-2014.  We can't wait to see you in August and welcome you into our amazing DVIA community!  For returning families, please be sure to complete the continuing enrollment survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2013Enrollment

I am also excited to report that during our recent attendance audit we passed with flying colors! We only had a small "ding" for late parent signatures on paperwork, but nothing we can't fix for next year. We know the Independent Study paperwork can be a burden for all of you, but we appreciate your diligence. It really paid off!

Did you know 3 of our staff members recently presented at a state wide conference? I presented with Brianne about alternative independent study programs and Kelly Ann presented about maximizing classroom time. We had a blast and were lucky to be joined by 3 Da Vinci parents and our Assistant Principal, Michelle. Together the 7 of us proudly represented Da Vinci Innovation Academy at the California Charter Schools Conference.

We have been working with staff and our board to make it possible to offer free summer school for students who need a little more help with Reading and Math. Qualifying families will be contacted mid-April. We are incredibly thankful to our board for supporting our students and making summer learning a priority.

With much gratitude,
Nicole

IMPORTANT INFORMATION & NEWS

Continuing Enrollment for DVIA Families 2013-2014

Please fill out the brief survey below indicating your current enrollment preference for the 2013-2014 school year. You will need to fill out the survey for each student, if you have only one student you may close the window after it resets and your information will be saved.  Please use this link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2013Enrollment

Welcome To Our New Families For Next Year!!

We extend a hearty welcome to the families who received offers to join our student body through the lottery this month. We look forward to seeing you in August!

The STAR/CST Tests are coming soon:

The STAR/CST Test (multiple choice) for 2nd through 8th grade students will take place during normal at-school time during the weeks of April 22-May 3.  While we do not emphasize these tests throughout the school year, it is important to our charter that students take the tests and that students arrive at school well-rested and fed. Thank you!

2013-2014 Application Information
The Priority Application Deadline has passed, but applications will still be accepted for our waitlist. If you know anyone interested in being added to the waitlist, direct them to the Da Vinci website and look under the enrollment section.

REMINDERS

Attendance Paperwork Protocol

Please note the following critical information about Independent Study paperwork and participation in our program:

In order to receive full attendance credit, complete Work Journals must be turned in by 3:00pm on the due date (the Friday immediately following the last date of the Learning Period).  For the current learning period that date is Friday, April 12th at 3:00pm.

If a complete Work Journal is not received, a letter will be sent home and one day of attendance will be deducted for each day late.

If a family receives three (3) such letters, the third letter will inform them that the student is no longer enrolled in the DVIA program.

Please remember that to participate in DVIA's program, parents and students agree to the Independent Study Enrollment Agreement which states that "a pupil will miss no more than 3 assignments during any Learning Period of 20 days before an evaluation is conducted to determine whether it is in the best interest of the pupil to remain in Independent Study."

Car Safety Seat Requirements For Younger Kids
It's come to our attention that some of our younger students are coming to school or being picked up without safety seats. The law requires all children under the age of 8 to ride with safety seats. We want your children to be safe and ask that you please observe these laws.

Lost and Found Items
Please look through the lost and found. All items not claimed by Spring Break will be donated.

Pizza Lunch & Spirit Day
Thursday, 4/25 & Friday, 4/26
Eat pizza for a good cause! Pizza is $3/slice or 2 for $5 and drinks are $1. All profits support DVIA. Please help! We need 6 volunteers each day to support this event. We almost had to cancel a lunch recently due to lack of volunteers.

Use SignUp Genius if you can help out with the Pizza Lunch. Due to overlap with Exhibition activities, there is no Spirit Celebration with this Pizza Lunch.
