Greetings DVIA Families!

A Few Words From Our Principal

Hello Everyone!

I hope you enjoyed a lovely weekend. Please make sure you read the curriculum newsletter that came out yesterday (note the corrected version). This is how you will request curriculum for next year. A huge thank you and shout out to Janette and Ethel for all of their work supporting homeschool curriculum!

There is lots of great information below. Thanks for reading! (Please note the new Talent Show date!)

From Our Dean of Students

Hello Families!

For our families participating in state testing, thank you for ensuring that your students are arriving to school on time, well-rested and well-fed! Having a full belly and a full night's sleep really helps students have a successful day of big brain work. :)
8th grade families! I know that you've sent in a kindergarten photo for the yearbook, and it's time to send in a baby photo of your 8th grader for me to use during graduation! Please e-mail me a photo of your graduate as a baby. :)
For our 7th grade families, it is time to start thinking about 8th grade graduation! It is tradition that our 7th grade families "host" a graduation reception for our 8th graders (light decorations, cake, punch, etc.), so that 8th grade families can just enjoy the day with their graduates. If you are available to join the hosting committee, please e-mail me ASAP!
Finally, I'd like to send a huge shout out to student Rowan Glenn, who organized a Core 4/5 screening of He Named Me Malala on Friday. It was a great experience to watch a documentary with such a powerful message with some of our older students and their families. Well done, Rowan! :)

Have a great week!
What you need to know this week:

Heads Up! Work Journal #4 Ends on April 11th and is due on April 11th or absolutely no later than 9:30am on April 12th!
We cannot claim your child's attendance if the work journal is turned in later than 9:30am on April 12th!!!
Say what??? Allow us to explain:
  • Our "P2 attendance report" is due by April 15th. P2 is a major reporting period which largely determines our funding.
  • We need to submit our Work Journals with our P2 report and our teachers need time to review the Journals prior to submission.
  • Ending Work Journal #4 on 4/11 allowed us to have 5 Work Journals instead of 6! (We want to do this again next year so please help us by getting them turned in on time!)
Please triple check your Work Journals before turning them in -- confirm that you have all signatures, dates, entries and samples.

We understand that ending a Work Journal and having it due on the same day can present some logistical issues. We will support you by extending the due date to 4/12 at 9:30 AM.

Thank you for helping us stay in compliance and on time with our state reports!

Support Student Project: Toy Drive!
Is charity your talent? Would you like to help bring a smile to an ailing child's face? Three charitable Core 2 students are collecting toys to donate to children in local hospitals. They will be gathering toys at the upcoming Talent Showcase to be held on Saturday, April 23. Thereafter, there will be a drop-off box located on campus near the office.

They are accepting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages.

Please click here for acceptable toys: http://www.chla.org/donate-toys

Your donations are much appreciated! Please contact Mubeena Mirza at mubeena.m@gmail.com with any questions.
