Greetings DVIA Families!

A Few Words From Our Director

Hello Everyone!

We hope your kiddo(s) enjoyed the first week of school. We certainly did!

I want to highlight a few things this week:

Wednesday is our first Parent Educator Conference and we are so excited to spend the day with you! More information below. Please remember that if you have any curriculum or resources you aren't using anymore, you can share them at our resource exchange! Just bring your gently used material with and give some, get some! Here is the link to our conference schedule.

Well, bad news folks. The lice have come early this year. A DVIA family reported finding lice so please be vigilant about checking your kiddo(s). It's rare to see live lice as they move pretty quickly. Check behind and above ears and above the nape of the neck for tiny gray eggs/nits that appeared glued to a strand of hair about 1 inch from the scalp. DVIA has never had a significant outbreak due to the vigilance of our families and because kiddos are on campus less frequently than most schools. Let's make sure this year is no different. Thanks!

To end on a positive note, our first day of school photos are in and if you want to purchase a pic of your kiddo on his/her first day, you can! Da Vinci Schools' photographer, Stacee Lianna, has made a gallery and pics are only $5 for the digital download. Here you go: Stacee's Gallery. Scroll down to find the gallery. Enjoy week two!

A Message From Kaitlin

Hi Families!

Congratulations to everyone on a successful first week of school! It was incredibly fun to see students back on campus reconnecting with each other, building relationships with staff and making new friends!

I want to continue creating strong relationships with each family on campus, so please come and introduce yourself to me! I am excited to learn more about you and your student. :)

Finally, the deadline to sign up, pay for and turn in health forms for the Core 4 and Core 5 camps is Tuesday, 9/1. If you have questions about camp, contact me right away.
Have a great week!

What you need to know this week

Parent Educator Conference (PEC) #1
Weds. 8/26 | 9:15 am - 2:15 pm
Hawthorne Memorial Center, 3901 El Segundo Blvd.
We are pleased to offer an exciting day of DVIA-sponsored professional development for parent educators. Workshop topics will include: Five Powerful Questions, Integrating Art & Music into Homeschooling, Real-World Writing, Planning Rich Field Trips, Compassionate Communication and more! Click here to see our current draft of the conference schedule.

Wondering what to do with homeschool resources your children have outgrown? Bring them to PEC! We will have a Resource Exchange table where you can leave something for others and find something for yourself.

We are offering the option of purchasing lunch from one
of our local faves, Cafe Rio. You MUST purchase a lunch ticket at the front office before the end of the day on Monday. Tickets are $10 (cash, check, cc). Lunches from home are welcome, too!

Student Supervision After School
With the exception of enrichment classes, there is no campus supervision for students after school. It is up to parents to supervise your students, even when you have a meeting with your teacher. Please also make sure your students put outdoor toys away when they leave so that teachers can focus the next morning on getting their classrooms ready for the day, rather than cleaning up toys. Thank you!!

Did You Drop Your Emergency Kit in the Bin?
Please make sure to bring packed kits (in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag), with completed emergency forms. Use this link for a list of items to include.

Our First Pizza Day!
Thurs, 9/17 & Fri, 9/18
Every month the Family Action Network (FAN) offers pizza for sale at lunch as a fundraiser for DVIA. Pizza is $3/slice or 2 slices for $5. Drinks are $1. The slices are BIG so most core 1-3 kiddos get 1 slice and a drink for $4.

Each month FAN asks parents from one classroom to host the event. This means supplying volunteers, picking up the pizza and donating drinks. This month FAN is asking the families from Darlene's class to donate. A SignUp Genius link will be sent out soon.

A Message from FAN!
EVERY family is part of our Family Action Network (FAN), so be on the lookout for communications via email, Facebook, the Yahoo group and at PEC for how you can find YOUR perfect service opportunity this year! Thanks in advance for all the FAN-tastic ways you'll support DVIA this year!

Coming Up...Mark Your Calendars!

Parent Educator Conference #2 will take place on September 30th (new date!) from 9:15am-2:15pm. We are hoping to hold PEC #3 on February 10th. We will confirm later when the location is finalized.

Have a great week!
~Your DVIA Team
