Greetings, DVIA Families!
From Our Principal

Greetings Families!

I hope you are having a great long weekend! My family has enjoyed lots of connecting time after a busy start to the school year!

I want to put it on your radar that we have some new families that are starting this coming week so please continue to "lean in" to making new friends, attending events, introducing yourself, offering help, setting up playdates, arranging homeschool lesson collaboration opportunities--anything that makes this amazing work you are doing more enjoyable and sustainable!

I hope to see many of you at the Comedy & Magic Club on September 13th! I'm looking forward to laughing with you. This is your last chance to buy tickets so please see the blurb below and sign up!

Lastly, usually at the beginning of the year we each reach our "saturation point" where we just can't take in anymore information. You may have missed some important information in past newsletters, so please visit the Parent Educator Resource Site and take a look at archived editions in case there are any nuggets of information you overlooked. Additionally, newsletters from last year and beyond offer curriculum advice, compassionate communication resources and other ideas. Check them out to spark some new ideas!

Hello DVIA Families!

What a week we've had! I am really enjoying continuing to get to know you and your student--I'm still working on knowing everyone's names, but I promise I'll get there! We saw SO many smiling faces at our first week of enrichment classes! Thank you for your continued flexibility and support as we reflect and revise and continue to mold this program into what we want it to be!

I am getting very excited to share some laughs at our upcoming FAN event at the Comedy and Magic Club (baby-free, woohoo!)! We hope to see many of you there! See below for more info :)

Also, Friday, 9/1, is the LAST day to turn in health forms and payments for Astro and Catalina Camp! E-mail me with any questions.

We will be storing our emergency bins no later than next Wednesday! If you have not dropped off your child's emergency kit, please do so by Wednesday 9/6!

Finally, please help your child choose clothing that meets DVIA dress code (outlined in the family handbook) any time he or she is on campus, including enrichment days. Thank you for your support in this! Hope you enjoyed the long weekend!

Hurricane Harvey Bake Sale
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
DVIA's FAN (Family Action Network) has recently conceptualized a community service arm called DVIA Cares. Events related to service will need to be approved and occur when it works in the school's schedule.

As a kickoff project FAN will be organizing a Hurricane Harvey Relief bake sale to collect funds for victims (human and animal) of the giant storm in Texas. The money will be divided and sent to the Red Cross and Humane Society. It is our hope that families willing to contribute in baking, selling or purchasing will find a way to feel connected to those suffering loss due to the flooding and feel proactive in their service. The bake sale started Friday and is open to the DVIA community this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school. For anyone thinking of baking, keep in mind healthier options and smaller portions. We are hoping to include fruit and refreshing drink options as well. Please sign up HERE and join a community of caring families!

FAN News
Thank you to those who made it to the FAN meeting - the calendar is filled with activities! Make sure to check the FAN page of the parent resource educator website to find out more information. We are still looking for room parents, event chairs, and volunteers to help put together FANtastic events for the school. If you have any questions, please reach out to Visit the SignUp Genius for Year-Round FAN Volunteers to find opportunities to get involved!

Pizza and Spirit Days are back!!
Approximately every 5 weeks, we hold a FAN sponsored pizza day on Th/F, where students can purchase Domino's pizza for lunch! The proceeds from Pizza lunch sales directly benefit our FAN events throughout the year. While you can purchase a la carte pizza for $3/slice and beverages for $1/cup, We are offering families the opportunity to prepay for the entire year at a discounted price!! Take advantage of this opportunity by submitting your completed form and payment to the front office by Friday, September 15th.
Sewing Supply Donations Wanted!
We are SO excited to offer four different enrichment sewing classes on Wednesdays, and they have proven to be very popular choices! Our sewing teacher, DVIA parent Robin Hagerty, would love the opportunity to offer her students experiences with a wide variety of tools and materials. If you have anything you might be able to donate, check out this SignUp Genius to see what she has in mind!
Magazines Needed!
Do you have old magazines laying around that you can donate? The Poppin' Pixels enrichment class would love to use them to explore elements of graphic design. The more magazines we have, the more possibilities the children have to explore and create! Any school-appropriate magazines are fine - gardening, food, sport, fashion, culture, current events, etc. Please leave them in the bin in the office labeled "Magazine Donation."
