Important Information & News

ILLEGAL U-TURNS IN FRONT OF SCHOOL

It's been brought to our attention that families are being cited for illegal u-turns in front of school. Please observe all local safety laws and be aware that local police are citing violators.

HELP NEEDED WITH MOVIE NIGHT

Movie night is right around the corner and we need your help! We need donations of packaged foods, beverages, candy bars, individual chip bags, cotton candy, popcorn and other movie goodies to sell as part of our FUNraiser. There will also be a bake sale and we need goodies for that, too.

For questions, please contact
Laura Moore at lawnmower59@gmail.com / 310.980.2489 or
Judith de Waart at dirkdew@verizon.net / 310.739.7400.

SAVE THE DATE
Annual Giving Campaign & Chevron Matching Challenge

Next month, we will formally kick off Da Vinci Schools' Annual Giving Campaign -- our top fundraising priority and the fundraiser we ask EVERY family to support.

This year, we are excited to announce that Chevron has generously donated $50,000 to Da Vinci Schools in the form of a matching challenge. Every donation and pledge to the Annual Giving Campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Chevron up to $50,000!!

Pledges must be made by Dec. 31 and paid by June 1, 2013 in order to be eligible for the Chevron match.

Gifts to the Annual Giving Campaign touch every K-12 student in the Da Vinci community and help bridge the gap between what the state provides and what it really costs to deliver an outstanding education.

By the second week of October, all currently enrolled K-12 families should receive an Annual Giving packet in the mail containing an appeal letter, pledge card and return envelope.

Please give what you can. Every gift makes a difference!

Annual Gifts ~ Daily Impact

Share Your Time -- We need help folding and stuffing envelopes. If you can help, please contact Carla Levenson at clevenson@davincischools.org.

We hope your children are enjoying their electives at AdventurePlex and DVIA. Your feedback is much appreciated as we continue working to provide a high quality experience for all students. Please review the information below regarding the Scholar Club portion of the program.

Cores 1,2 & 3: Your children are encouraged to bring a book or independent work from home. The Scholar Club coach will also present mini-lessons and a variety of activities during this academic support time when the students have completed their independent work or reading.

Cores 4 & 5: All students are asked to bring independent work in any school subject area for the Scholar Club period. The coach is available for support and to provide assistance as needed.

Please feel free to contact Nancy Rosenburg at nrosenburg@davincischools.org with any questions regarding Scholar Club.

Lunch is available!

Lunch can be ordered at the AdventurePlex campus. If you'd like your student to buy lunch, please check out the menu and send money (including tax). Kelly Ann will have forms at the door in the morning.

A friendly reminder about appropriate dress

School dress code is not required for Electives, but please make sure your student is making clothing choices that support their activities and learning for the day. Older students are asked to remember that Electives are a school event with students and friends of all ages attending. Please keep your clothing choices modest.

Do You Have Great Outside Learning Resources To Share?

Some terrific learning resources have been shared on our Yahoo Group Listserv. In addition to posting your resources to the group, please send them to Lisa Grady at lisa.grady7@gmail.com so that she can add them to our Parent Resource Website and make your hard work available to families for years to come.

Please also be aware that we are in the process of establishing Core-specific Yahoo Groups to support discussion and resource sharing within individual Cores. As discussions on resource sharing migrate from the main group to individual Listservs, it will become even more important to get your suggestions shared in one place that everybody can access, as many resources will apply across multiple Cores.

Get Involved!
