Greetings, DVIA Families!
A Few Words from Our Principal

Greetings Families!

It was great to see many of you at the Film Festival this weekend! Kiddos--nice work submitting your original films and parents, thanks for supporting your children's creativity! I'm looking forward to seeing what is shown at our Spring Film Festival on March 25th! Thank you to our FANtastic participants and FAN parents for organizing (nice work Jennifer, Lachmi and Julie!).

I want to make sure that you've all seen the application for enrichment winter camp! We know that many of you requested the additional coverage between Thanksgiving and Winter Break and again between Winter Break and the start of 2nd semester enrichment. I want to make sure you know that Winter Camp is user-pay and can only run if a minimum number of participants enroll. Applications are due this coming Friday, November 11th (Note: DVIA office is closed Nov 11 so in person by 11/10 or via email on 11/11). Thanks!

Lastly, I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at Exhibition next Monday and Tuesday, November 14 and 15 from 5:00-6:30!

Enjoy your week,
M_Rainey sig
From Our Dean of Students
I am on maternity leave until we return from Winter Break. I can't wait to hear about the incredible learning and growth  that's happening while I'm away!

Candy/Pumpkin Collection
Now - Thurs 11/10
Wondering what you're going to do with all that extra Halloween candy? Operation Gratitude is collecting candy to send to deployed US service members! Brownie Girl Scout Troop 4495 will deliver all the candy to the Operating Base in Chatsworth.  If you would like to donate some candy, please bring it to school (in the bins located in the front office).  It would also be extra special if your child wrote a note or drew a picture for the service men and women overseas, but not necessary.  This will really brighten up their day and we get to cut back on all the extra sugar!  Win-Win!

Also, located in front of the school you will find a box for all your old pumpkins (both cut and whole) for our community garden!  Pumpkins make the BEST compost so please bring any pumpkins you were going to discard!

Please check the lost and found!
It's located just inside the chalkboard door between the Core 1 and adult bathroom. There are so many jackets and water bottles hoping to come home. We will donate all unclaimed items during Thanksgiving Break so please come rescue your lost items!

UCLA Anxiety Study
It's not too late to join the UCLA Anxiety Study! Students 10-17 are eligible to participate and in addition to the benefits of the study, students are contributing to scientific research and can earn a stipend. Contact Dr. Michelle Rozenman for more information: MRozenman@mednet.ucla.edu or call (310) 794-2215

Screenagers Screening
Tues Nov 29, 6:30pm
Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance. Screenagers addresses this pervasive parenting issue head on -depicting teen struggles over social media, video games and internet addiction. The film empowers kids to best navigate the digital world and provides practical resources to help them do it. RUHS is hosting this free event for teens and parents. More information is available here. RSVP required.

Help Those in Need
Right now Union Rescue Mission is sheltering more women and children than at any other time in their 125 year history. On an average night, they have 129 children, 60 families and over 300 single women sleeping under their roof. As demand increases, supplies necessary to meet basic needs also need to increase. We are trying to collect some much needed items to help support those in need:
Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Soap Bars
Deodorant
Diapers (any Size/brand)
Pedialyte
Donations must be NEW and UNOPENED and can be dropped at any large bin throughout the DVIA Campus marked "Union Rescue Mission Donations." They can also be given to Jenny Arzuaga. We kindly ask that all donations be made by November 10th. Let's come together as a community and show those in need that we care! Questions? Contact Jenny Arzuaga.

Did You Know...
...the Parent Resource Website was recently revamped? Did you hear about it at PEC but haven't checked it out yet? Go take a look, and see what it has to offer you!

Have a great week!
