Greetings, DVIA Families!
From Your Principal
Greetings Families,

I hope your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break! The DVIA staff is excited to see you and your kiddos soon! You will notice some changes on campus--please read the facilities update below.

I want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank every person who made our first semester enrichment program a success! So many people contributed to make such great learning experiences for our children! We had DVIA parents, guest instructors and DVIA staff working on everything from curriculum development, daily lesson plans, purchasing materials, supporting students, developing documents, supporting drop off and pick up, etc. It was truly a labor of love and it definitely stretched us as a staff. We will be finalizing the 2nd semester application in the coming week and you will be able to sign up soon. I announced some changes in the November 3rd newsletter (can be found archived on the Parent Educator Resource Site) and a few further changes will be announced when applications are released and again before classes begin in January. We want to ensure this is a manageable part of our program so we are streamlining a few things. Thanks for being patient as we figure this out!

I would like to thank all of you for being patient as we explored a new afternoon pickup routine in the weeks before break. We realize that changing expectations mid-year can be tricky. As soon as we had full use of the former DV Science quad area, we wanted to immediately take advantage of the opportunity to better wrangle the pickup situation and even better, solve the afternoon congestion that you've all been so patient and understanding about. Thank you! Here are a few things to know as we move forward:
  • Please continue to drive northbound only in the parking lot along Aviation during drop off and pick up times
  • DO NOT park in the "fire lane" in front of the forum/multipurpose room. The curb is painted red to indicate emergency parking and we use that lane to load kiddos in cars that are using the valet pickup line. Thank you!
  • If you parked and are walking onto campus to pick up at 3:15, please wait by the rolling fence (by the flag pole in the former Science parking lot) and when staff opens the gate, head inside to pickup your kiddos.
  • Students will NOT be allowed past the gate unless one of the following applies: 1) you have driven up to the front of the valet line and Kaitlin or Michelle calls their name, 2) you are waiting for them and your child shows us that you are there (we are focused on loading cars and don't necessarily notice parents waiting outside the gate--please go inside and find your child), 3) your child is in middle school and you have emailed the front office ( to indicate that your child can walk home or meet you in a designated spot off campus.
Thank you and hope you have a great week!

Facilities Update

Now that the Da Vinci high schools have moved into their new building, you may be wondering about next steps for DVIA! Da Vinci's maintenance and facilities team worked very hard this past week to support DVIA in moving into some new spaces and opening up the central part of the former Da Vinci Science campus for our students! You will notice some fences have moved and a few classrooms are relocated (this includes the Collaborative classroom--Katie, Jennifer J, Janette, Nancy, Sascha, Robin, Theresa, Antioch counseling and OT). Teachers will be settling into new spaces this coming week.

Da Vinci RISE and Da Vinci Extension have moved into the central building of the former Da Vinci Science campus. We do not share outdoor space or classrooms with RISE or DVX and there are fencing boundaries that separate our programs. Fun fact: For the past 2.5 years, DVIA has provided paid and unpaid internships to over 20 DVX students, and we have hired 6 of them as academic coaches/instructional aides! We love working with these young men and women, many of whom now aspire to become educators!

We have created perimeter fencing boundaries at the back of campus and in the coming months, bungalows will be removed and fencing will be rearranged to give our school a more cohesive feel. As we know more information, we will be sure to share with you! In the meantime, thank you for your flexibility and patience as Da Vinci Schools makes this complex transition! We are excited for the changes ahead!
