Greetings, DVIA Families!
A Few Words from Our Principal

Greetings Families!

Welcome back! I am looking forward to see your kiddos again and you too! The staff spent last week excitedly planning projects, classes and workshops for the new semester. We can't wait to greet you this week and truly hope your Winter Break was filled with the rejuvenation and connection you deserve. Thank you for being part of our DVIA family!

I hope your family will celebrate the coming semester with us at the Winter Jubilee! Details are below and it's going to be great family fun! Thank you to Core 2 parent Lachmi for chairing this event! She needs your help to make it happen so please see below and sign up to help!

Lastly, I want thank three FANtastic parent educators continually go above and beyond to support our campus. Diana, thank you for caring for our chickens every week, rain or shine, and for enabling me to take vacations from chicken duty during the various breaks and holidays. You step in unasked and our clucking ladies (and me too!) love you for it. Thank you, thank you.

Cara, thank you for so humbly tending to our campus. You water our plants, wash our outdoor eating tables, and step in for a variety of tasks so humbly and with such kindness. Cara graciously spent part of today (Sunday) cleaning up campus to make sure we are ready for kids this week. Amazing!

Jami, you've turned our campus into a thriving garden and showed our students that they can plant their own food and "live off the fatta' the lan'" (Of Mice and Men reference). Thank you for so generously giving of your time and resources as you build planters, donate plants and nurture them.

Eileen, thank you for spending part of each weekend pulling together our newsletter. It's a big task and we couldn't keep parents informed in this way and so frequently without your support. Your help is invaluable and I appreciate you!

There are so many of you who deserved to be recognized. Thank you all for all you give our campus, our staff and especially our students and each other. We truly have a magical community.

Have a great week!

From Our Dean of Students
Happy New Year, everyone! I am SO excited to be back on campus with our staff, and I can't wait to see you and your kiddos!

I want to express gratitude for all the kindness, well wishes, and happy thoughts as I've made my journey into motherhood! I have a new respect and admiration for ALL the work you've been doing as parents and paving the way for us newbies. ;) I am excited to lean on and learn from all of you!

While easing into being a family of three has been magical, I am happy to be back and present at DVIA. Baby Lylah and I can't wait to see you!

The Dangers of Child Labor
Last semester, in Dan's middle school Humanities class, students were moved to impact the current state of global child labor. One student, Una, would like to share the following:

My primary goal is to inform people about the dangers and harmful outcomes of child labor. Every day, children around the world are being abused, receiving little payment in return. It's extremely important to me that everyone feels strongly that this isn't right, and it's up to us to make a difference. I used this Jane Goodall quote as inspiration: "Only if we understand, will we care. Only if we care, will we help. Only if we help, shall all be saved." This may not directly relate to child labor, however, it means something to me. It means that we must truly care in order to help, in order to not give up when it comes to saving lives, making life better for thousands of innocent children. So to help make an impact, and raise awareness, I ask that you visit my website http://dangersofchildlabor.weebly.com to learn more.

Can you help?
Our large white DVIA letters in front of campus haven't survived the rainy season very well :( Can you help us sand down and repaint the peeling sections and seal them? You help would be much appreciated! Contact Kaitlin if you can help!
