Greetings DVIA Families!
A Few Words From Our Principal
February is here already and empathy
is in the air! Some of you really enjoyed the videos linked in Tyler's blurb last week so here's a little video about Empathy vs. Sympathy
. Our staff engaged in a thoughtful dialogue after viewing it and I hope it sparks some conversation and connection in your home as well!
I'd like to acknowledge the hard work and tremendous dedication of all the families who helped make the Jubilee happen last week. You gave your time and care by decorating, running booths, taking amazing photos, and contributing potluck food. Thank you, thank you! An extra huge shout out to Lisa Mathis Allen who organized this event and spent countless hours making sure it was a success.
I would also like to acknowledge the real world experts (several of whom are also DVIA parents) who served on the panel at Korey's Shark Tank event Friday evening. Thank you for supporting our students!
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Tyler's Two Cents
In addition to all the hard work that went into making the Little Libraries last weekend, I also want to acknowledge the tree donated by the Collaco family in connection with the project.
This tree was donated to off-set the lumber purchased to build the Little Libraries. Our new tree represents an awesome opportunity to have in-depth and meaningful conversations with our kids about sustainability, carbon footprints and environmentalism. You can find the tree in our green space behind the chicken coop.
It is all too easy to take our environment for granted, and hopefully this tree can serve as a tangible way to help our kids think about their current and future role in helping to keep our wonderful planet going strong for many more generations to come.

Little Free Libraries Come To DVIA
Three Little Free Libraries were built last weekend for our campus. Anybody at DVIA is welcome to "borrow" books from the libraries. Return books when you finish or pass them on to a friend. Book donations are also welcomed, but not required. We ask that you try to put your donated books in the library closest to the age-appropriate classroom. Here's a great two minute video explaining how these libraries work.
