Greetings, DVIA Families!
A Few Words from Our Principal
I'm looking forward to seeing you at this week's Parent Educator Conference! We have a lot in store for you!
On a different note, did you know that humor and laughter can improve memory, lower the stress hormone cortisol, and burn 160 calories per hour? It can also improve your immune system, relieve pain and increase your sense of personal satisfaction! Well, let's enjoy all of these amazing health benefits together by going to the Comedy & Magic Club on March 7th! Please join me and fellow DVIA parents as we laugh the night away. See the blurb below for more info and I truly hope to see you there! Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Enjoy your week!
| From Our Dean of Students
Hello Families! I hope that you've been able to keep up with the crazy weather changes we've been having!
Like the weather, I know that our schedules can get crazy, too! The idea of over-scheduling was discussed during Book Club this week, as we reflected on ideas from child psychologist Katie Hurley. According to Hurley, over-scheduling and the pressure to "perform" is proven to cause stress in adults and kids! Along with the advice to follow our kids' leads regarding schedules and extra-curricular activities, Hurley shared the following tip to help bring kids back to their centers when feeling stressed or anxious:
Have your kiddo lay on the ground and imagine that they are blowing up a balloon. If their breathing is too strong, the imaginary balloon will pop out of their mouth and fall to the ground. But if they don't fill their lungs with enough air, the balloon won't inflate. Using this imagery helps students to practice "just right" deep breathing that is proven to be calming in times of stress. Pro tip: When practicing this breathing activity with your child, they can imagine specific worries that they can send away with each imaginary balloon, or they can send away happy wishes to people they love!
Hoping your week is filled with lots of love and many happy wishes. :)

Reminders about Kid Care at PEC #3
- We ask that school-age children no longer attend PEC. We love your kids; however, space constraints have become an issue, and we have heard that parents' comfort in being able to speak freely has been impacted. If you need to bring younger siblings to PEC with you, please do.
- PEC 3 Kid Care will be provided on the DVIA campus, NOT at the Memorial Center.
- Please go to the Signup Genius for more details and to hold a spot for your child, then confirm your reservation by paying at the DVIA front office by this Tuesday, Feb. 14th.
If you have any questions about Kid Care, please contact Theresa.

Annual Giving Campaign
Every year we rely on our Da Vinci families and friends to help maintain our current programs. This year we have a $500 per student gap between what the state provides and what it actually costs to deliver an outstanding Da Vinci education. Your contribution will provide immediate support to Da Vinci's top priorities. Every gift matters! We are seeking 100% family participation. Make a tax-deductible gift or pledge today by using this link or click the photo. Your gift must be received by June 30 to support this year's greatest needs.
**8th graders must also submit an application for the DV High Schools.**

You are welcome to bring friends and family to share in the fundraising, the good company, and the well-deserved laughs. Can't wait to see you there!
| Curriculum Corner
Amy Erin Borovoy of Edutopia has assembled a video playlist called "Videos on Kindness, Empathy, and Connection." Borovoy says:
I'd like to offer up a video playlist to remind all of us about the power of empathy, kindness, and human connections. It's always a good time to practice gratitude for the relationships that sustain us all -- for the people who have taught us in a school setting and beyond, and for the young ones we are able to nurture and inspire.
I was also thinking about how many of us are living out the paradox of being ever more plugged in, and ever more aware of what's happening in our community via social media platforms, while at the same time, face-to-face interactions are less frequent than ever before. We are in constant touch, but barely touching. Watching these videos made me remember the importance of re-connecting, treating people with kindness and respect, and being generous and compassionate to both loved ones and strangers. If each of us pledged to do more of that, we'd make a better world for all of us to learn and grow in.
We are sure you will find one or more videos that pique your interest!
