Greetings, DVIA Families!
A Few Words from Our Principal

Greetings Families!

I'd like to invite each of you to join my family in donating to Da Vinci's Annual Giving Campaign. As you might know, there is a significant gap between what the state provides to public schools and what it costs to operate a high quality educational program. Your donation will help DVIA and Da Vinci Schools maintain the programs, staffing and project-based instruction that makes our school unique. We've teamed up with some really excellent community partners who are matching our donations. To find out how to make your donation, please read the blurb below. Thank you!

I'm also excited to announce a new section of the newsletter that I hope YOU will help us keep going! A few weeks ago, I asked one of our 8th graders, Derrick, what was new and he said, "Well, I'm building a computer at home." Of course I had to know more! While Derrick was telling me about his computer-building adventure, I thought to myself, "We have to feature this kind of thing in the newsletter! There's got to be a section where students can share their hobbies, their projects, what they are proud of, their adventures...!" So, without further adieu, I direct your attention to our new addition: What's Cookin' in the Homeschool Kitchen! Please read about Derrick's journey below and email me if your child wants to share his/her learning! (Please note: I want this to be kid-friendly and reflect the range of grades and interests of our students...your child does not need to write an essay! Even just 2-3 sentences about what he or she is learning would be awesome!).

Enjoy your week!

From Our Dean of Students

Hello Families,

What a week we've had! It was great to see so many kiddos participate in Spirit Day! Lots of caped and other heroes were seen enjoying the day. :) We appreciate all the effort that our FAN families continue to pour into pizza day!

Speaking of FAN,  we are looking forward to another FAN breakfast coming soon! It's time to reflect on the year so far, update each other on current plans for upcoming events, and think ahead for the future. We would love to see you there!

The 2017 Annual Giving Challenge Is On!

There's never been a better time to support Da Vinci Schools! Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Belkin International, Northrop Grumman, Chevron, Gensler, 72andSunny, Kinecta Federal Credit Union, and Continental Development, all donations to the Da Vinci Schools Annual Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $75,000.

Make your donation or pledge by April 30, 2017, and your gift will be doubled. All of our schools' day-to-day needs depend on Annual Fund gifts - from hands-on curriculum and innovative technology, to field trips and college visits, to a $1,000 materials budget for every Da Vinci teacher.

Dates for Next Year
While DVIA's calendar for next year won't be officially approved until the board meeting at the end of next month, we feel fairly confident about the first day of school and want to share that with you, as we know many families work on summer calendars now.

The anticipated first day of school is Wednesday, August 16th. However, we also anticipate holding some connecting events and a "PEC 1, Jumpstart to the School Year" type event on August 14th-15th. (Our typical school year starts August 14th). Please plan for your family to be available starting August 14th!
What's Cookin' in the Homeschool Kitchen

This week we are featuring a reflection written by 8th  grader Derrick, who built his own computer! Find out more HERE!

Is your child doing something awesome during homeschooling? Or does he/she have an exciting hobby to share? Email Michelle with a blurb (could be 2-3 sentences or an essay!) and a picture (if desired) and we will feature it here! Your child's reflection would also make an excellent writing work sample! :)
