Updates From Your Principal

NicoleAssisi Hello Da Vinci Families,

Spring is almost here! In addition to the flowers blossoming across campus (thank you Core 5!), our learners' curiosities, understandings and passions are as always growing and reaching new heights. Want to see evidence of their growth? We have Exhibition coming up in a couple of weeks and are also in the process of collecting new "MAP" data that will be available soon. Regarding Exhibition, please note that we changed the time of Exhibition, which is listed below!

Have you seen the new iDaVinci videos yet? These are videos created by students during electives. You can find them in the Kid's Corner on the FAN website! I had the pleasure of spending a class with the iDV students last week and am so impressed with their hard work and awesome outcomes.

There is lots going on from parent workshops to a weekend clean up event, comedy fundraiser, student talent show and much more, so make sure to read for details below.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events!

With much gratitude,

2013-2014 Enrollment Information
The Priority Application Deadline has passed, but applications will still be accepted for our waitlist. If you know anyone interested in being added to the waitlist, direct them to the Da Vinci website and look under the enrollment section.

The STAR/CST Tests are coming soon:

The STAR/CST Test (multiple choice) for 2nd through 8th grade students will take place during normal at-school time during the weeks of April 22-May 3.  While we do not emphasize these tests throughout the school year, it is important to our charter that students take the tests and that students arrive at school well-rested and fed. Thank you!

Attendance Paperwork Protocol

Please note the following critical information about Independent Study paperwork and participation in our program:

In order to receive full attendance credit, complete Work Journals must be turned in by 3:00pm on the due date (the Friday immediately following the last date of the Learning Period).  For the current learning period that date is Friday, March 8th at 3:00pm.

If a complete Work Journal is not received, a letter will be sent home and one day of attendance will be deducted for each day late.

If a family receives three (3) such letters, the third letter will inform them that the student is no longer enrolled in the DVIA program.

Please remember that to participate in DVIA's program, parents and students agree to the Independent Study Enrollment Agreement which states that "a pupil will miss no more than 3 assignments during any Learning Period of 20 days before an evaluation is conducted to determine whether it is in the best interest of the pupil to remain in Independent Study."

Family Work Day!
This Saturday, 3/9 | 9:00am - 4:00pm
Come help us beautify campus and prepare for Spring. Family work day may have "work" in its title but it's also a really fun way to gather, see friends and connect with Da Vinci Families you might not know yet. Please click the link below and sign up. We hope to see you there!

Pastries With The Principal
Unfortunately cancelled this month

Car Safety Seat Requirements For Younger Kids
It's come to our attention that some of our younger students are coming to school or being picked up without safety seats. The law requires all children under the age of 8 to ride with safety seats. We want your children to be safe and ask that you please observe these laws.
Lost and Found Items
Please look through the lost and found. All items not claimed by Spring Break will be donated.
WORKSHOP:  Helping Students Learn How To Learn
Saturday, 3/16 | 10:30 am - noon | Rita's Classroom
Join Kelly Ann for a workshop based on Betty Garner's book "Getting To Got It." Learn practical strategies to develop the mental processes needed to connect new knowledge with prior knowledge, organize information into patterns and relationships, and more!

DVIA Exhibition

Tuesday, 3/19 & Thursday, 3/21 | 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Come see all the hard work and learning DVIA students have been doing!  Please plan to walk through multiple (or all!) classrooms so students have a varied audience.

Families are expected to attend their student's presentation and are encouraged to visit other classrooms, too. Exhibitions are an exciting product of our home and school collaboration. Check with your student's teacher(s) for details. Family and friends are also welcome!

A special Exhibition dress code applies (check with your teacher for details). If your child has outgrown his/her Exhibition attire and you wish to donate or swap clothes, check out the Yahoo group to find a match.

We will be selling pizza on the front lawn from 4:15-5:15 PM. The cost is $3 a slice or $5 for two. Families are encouraged to pack their own drinks and and sides. In order to give teachers a chance to prepare their classrooms, families are asked to socialize and eat pizza on the front lawn outside of school until Exhibition starts.

Lastly, please note that we are sharing the Tuesday, March 19th Exhibition date with Da Vinci Science so parking will be hectic.  Parking is available at Dana Middle School and in the neighborhood nearby.

Da Vinci Science and Design Exhibitions

Da Vinci Science 3/19 6:00-8:00pm

Da Vinci Design 3/28 6:00-8:00pm

Come out to support all of the Da Vinci schools and see what students are learning!

Pizza Lunch
Thursday, 3/21 & Friday, 3/22
Eat pizza for a good cause! Pizza is $3/slice or 2 for $5 and drinks are $1. All profits support DVIA. Please help! We need 6 volunteers each day to support this event. We almost had to cancel a lunch recently due to lack of volunteers.

Use SignUp Genius if you can help out with the Pizza Lunch. Due to overlap with Exhibition activities, there is no Spirit Celebration with this Pizza Lunch.

Spring Break (No School)
