Greetings, DVIA Families!
A Few Words from Our Principal
Greetings Families!

Can you believe it's already mid-March!? That means lots of things around here. It means Exhibition is near (we love Exhibition!). We can't wait to see your kiddos show what they know on April 3rd or 4th. March also means that we begin the process of reflecting on what we've done well this year and what we need to improve for next year. With that in mind, I am asking that you please take 10-15 minutes to give us some feedback on our program. Please use
this survey link and it would be much appreciated if you keep in mind the mantra we try to live by withfeedback: be kind, specific and helpful. Thank you! I need your feedback by March 31st so please don't forget.

I'm excited to announce that DVIA will be offering 3 weeks of full-day camp in June! We will be getting feedback from students this week about the type of camps they want us to offer and we will have flyers and sign ups ready very soon. Please save the date for June 12-16, 19-23 and 26-30 from 9:00am-3:00pm, M-F (camps are for DVIA students and school-age siblings only; you may choose 1, 2 or 3 weeks). Please feel free to tell your children to start brainstorming summer camp themes to share with their teachers this week! More details soon!

Enjoy your week!

From Our Dean of Students

Hi Families!

Spring is in the air! Which also means that State Testing is around the corner ;) As you may know, 3rd-8th grade students at DVIA participate in the state CAASPP tests in ELA and Math, our 5th and 8th graders participate in a NEW version of the CA Science test (now called the CAST), and our 5th and 7th graders participate in the Physical Fitness Test. While we don't hold much value in these state tests, we want you to have as much information as you need to feel comfortable in knowing that we will create a testing environment that feels safe, comfortable, and least impactful for your students. With that being said, the next "Pastries with the Principal" (on Monday 3/27 and Friday 3/31) will be focused on discussing the state tests with me. I look forward to seeing you there if you're interested in chatting more about these tests!

In the meantime, feel free to read the attached letter
from the state that shares more information and provides some helpful links. :) Please note that as a state and federally-funded school, we are required to reach the state testing participation rate in order to receive funds and have the leeway to run the kind of program we do. We ask that you do not opt out of state testing as that puts us in jeopardy of being categorized as a "program improvement" school, which would mandate curriculum and programmatic changes we do not want to see. Thank you!

What's Cookin' in the Homeschool Kitchen
This week we are featuring DVIA students who are helping to rescue sea lions! Sea lion pup Pikachu is on the road to recovery and a release back to her ocean home thanks in part to Sophie, Mei, Savannah, Maya and Peyton and other dedicated kids and parents who raised $500 for the Pacific Marine Mammal Center! This is the second sea lion rescue by DVIA kids and we will be working on
a third soon. Visit this website to schedule a field trip to the rescue center or contact if you're interested in joining efforts towards the next rescue.
