A Few Words From Our Principal

Hello Everyone!

We are so excited to welcome you to campus this week for Exhibition! We appreciate the hard work your learners have been doing to get ready and can't wait to see and hear them present! More information is below in Kaitlin's blurb.

I want to put on your radar that although the 2016-2017 calendar is not yet board approved, it is likely that the first day of school will be August 15th. As soon as our calendar is finalized I will make sure you know but wanted to give you a tentative date for summer travel plans.

Lastly, please be sure to take note of the yearbook deadline mentioned below!
Thank you for being part of our DVIA family and enjoy your week!

From Our Dean of Students

Hello Families!

We hope you had a great week and are adjusting to the time change! I know I've been yawning a little extra this week ;)
Exhibition is THIS Monday and Tuesday (March 21st and 22nd) from 5:00-6:30 pm! That also means that there will be NO enrichment on these days. Our staff needs time to make final preparations and eat dinner before the fun begins!

We are so excited to share this experience with our community members, and to celebrate our students' learning and growth in such an authentic way! Please remember to enjoy this experience by being fully engaged with student presenters, and leaving your cell phone tucked away for the evening. Final reminders: Student presenters should be in Exhibition attire (unless otherwise specified by their teacher), and students presenting right at 5:00 should be on campus no later than 4:55pm. Also make sure to please feed your kiddos and families before Exhibition begins - it can be a tiring evening! We look forward to seeing you there!
After Exhibition, you have a week of Spring Break to look forward to! Campus will be closed from March 28-April 1.
Once we return from Spring Break, state testing will begin on Monday, April 4th. Please look for the newsletter that came out on Thursday, March 17th for more information on state testing. If you have questions or would like to talk more about these tests, please email me!

Have a great week!
What you need to know this week:

8th Grade Photos At The Beach
Wed, March 23rd | 3 pm
Attention 8th grade families! Our photographer, Stacee Lianna, is offering an 8th grade photo day under the Manhattan Beach Pier! Individual photos will take place on a drop-in basis from 2:30-4:00pm. A group photo will be taken promptly at 3:00pm. Contact Kaitlin with questions.

Annual Giving Campaign--Double Your Donation Now Through 3/31
Time is running out to double your donation! We are so grateful to those families who have already donated,
yet our DVIA giving participation stands at 29% to date. We are seeking 100% family participation. Your contribution provides immediate support to Da Vinci's top priorities. This year we have a $500 per student gap between what the state provides and what it actually costs to deliver an outstanding Da Vinci education. Every gift matters! Make a tax-deductible gift or pledge today by using this link or click the photo.

Order Your Yearbooks!
Last day to order - Friday, April 1st (no fooling!)
Yearbooks are available for sale! Download the order form by clicking on it and then return the form to the office with payment or scan/email to Infinite Learning.

Attention 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th Grade Families!
Each Fall, our 5th and 6th graders attend Astro Camp in Idyllwild, and our 7th and 8th graders attend CIMI Camp in Catalina (at Fox Landing). Kaitlin begins plans for these camp experiences around this time each year. In order to better coordinate with our contacts at each camp, and to keep you informed as early as possible, Kaitlin is asking you to please complete a VERY short survey to gauge interest for Camp in Fall 2016. Please click the survey photo to answer a brief survey. Thank you for helping us plan the best possible experience for our students!

Cans for Composter Update
A big thank you to all who have contributed bottles and cans towards the composter. Teacher Rita Bouchard was able to rehab an older composter on campus and the composter funds were used to buy a wheelbarrow to transport gardening materials (including compost) around campus. The wheelbarrow is kid-friendly and will help them work on projects that require heavy lifting. Due to the success of the bottle and can drive to fund these types of campus needs, we will continue to collect over the year for various purposes. Currently, the funds will go towards milkweed for our wonderful, but very hungry monarch caterpillars. Keep bringing in that recycling and help DVIA. Thanks!

Do you have a torch to lend?
Do you own or have access to a torch? Do you also have some free time and want to help Kaitlin play with fire? We are needing to melt some sharp edges of plastic on some toys that have been created for us before we use them with students. If you can help with this (during a non-student time), please reach out to Kaitlin ASAP! Thanks!
