Greetings, DVIA Families!

From Our Principal

Greetings Families!

I want to thank so many of you for spending time with me last week so that I could better understand your perspectives about DVIA's enrichment program. I was able to share out some information with you as well and will follow up with further information in the next week as I process, reflect and begin to plan next steps.

I also want to thank you for supporting our school by participating in state testing (grades 3-8). As you know, us reaching a 95% participation rate is crucial to us staying in compliance with state mandates and maintaining our charter. Thank you for trusting us to implement the tests in a way that works for kids. We have just a few more makeup and unfinished tests to give and then we will be done!

Lastly, I will be sending a separate communication out to families this week with some information about a few changes for next year, including the configuration of DVIA's cores/grade levels and who is teaching what in both our Collaborative and Hybrid programs. Many schools avoid such communication at this time of year and plan to share as little as possible with students and families. We know change can be hard, but we embrace the conversations with students so that they can process the changes before they are right before them with the new year.

Please be sure to take some time to celebrate yourselves and your children's POL successes during these final weeks. You've worked hard!

I hope to see you at La Poém Café on Wednesday!

Hello Families!

State testing is finally over! Thank you to everyone who participated and prepared their kiddos for a smooth experience and to those who were flexible in attending make up days! We appreciate your efforts in helping us reach our 95% participation rate!

If you missed the camp meetings last week for 5th-8th graders, please find a friend who attended to gather necessary information. "Save the Date" info sheets are available
here for core 4 and here for core 5, and a commitment form for Astro Camp is available here. Commitment forms for Astro Camp are due no later than Friday, May 26th!

We are looking forward to spending our last weeks together celebrating POLS and enjoying our end of year events like the Poetry Jam and the End-of-Year Cultural Fair and Social!

We are transforming the Collaborative classroom into La Poém Café (The Poetry Cafe), a café overflowing with ambiance, stocked with delicious drinks and tasty treats and flanked by fun photo booths. Students are invited to read/perform their own original poetry or to recite a favorite poem. The café will open at 1:00 and our first poet will take the stage at 1:10. Poets, please RSVP here. Families, we need you to help us to create this magical space and experience for our student poets. To volunteer or donate, please click here.

Summer Camp Reminder
Please remember to sign up for summer camp! We need to finalize staffing based on numbers very soon!

New Wiseburn-Da Vinci Athletics Shirts
If your kiddo would like to add another "Da-Vinci-approved" shirt to his/her school wardrobe, check out our new athletic shirts here!

Basketball Hoop Donation

With more outdoor space next year, we are looking to create a larger basketball space for kids. We currently have one portable, adjustable hoop but are looking for another. Do you have something like this collecting dust in your yard or garage? If it's in good condition, we'll take it!

Save the Date

Blue note

Keaton Click, an 8th grader here at DVIA, has created a blog as part of his final passion project! His blog, titled "The Impact of Music," shares information about the effect music has on society. It also explains how music has been used to benefit others and bring people together. Go check it out here!

Have a great week!
