Greetings DVIA Families!
A Few Words From Our Principal
Greetings Families!

I hope you are doing something fun this long holiday weekend!

I enjoyed seeing so many of you at our first Parent Educator Conference! Thanks for bringing such a positive, productive energy to our events. With so many independent study options available to families wishing to homeschool, it's our sense of community for kiddos and adults (as well as our "signature practices") that families often seek. Your participation and positive vibes are essential to building our awesome community. I'm glad you're here! And good news! We have even more connecting events coming up:
  • Make-up/Repeat PEC workshops
  • The Opening Social Film Festival
  • Our first Scooter's Jungle FUNdraiser
  • Book Club with Michelle
There's more information below about each of these events. Hope to see you there!

From Our Dean of Students

Wow! A huge thank you goes out to Janette and Ethel for coordinating PEC 1, and to all our workshop presenters who planned thoughtfully in order to support your transition into the school year! Also, thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to meaningful conversations throughout the day! While trying something new can feel scary, I really appreciate everyone that dove in to the "unconference" in the afternoon! You rock. :) If you missed PEC 1, or hoped to attend more workshops than you were able, see below for additional workshop offerings!

As an appreciation for your hard work so far this year, please feel free to take Monday off. ;) Monday, September 5th, is Labor Day, and there will be no school!

If you have a 3rd-8th grader, your student has been given a email account so s/he has access to e-mail and google docs while working on school work. Please review the "Respectable User (Technology) Policy" on pg. 29 of our handbook with your student. Students should use their accounts solely for school work, and personal accounts should be saved for personal use at home.

Finally, our FAN Opening Social/Film Festival is this Saturday! I can't wait to see you there. :) See below for information on how you can help make this a successful event!

More Information:
No School Monday!
Tomorrow! 9/5
Just a reminder that Monday, September 5th, is Labor Day! School will be closed and it is a non-homeschool day. Enjoy your holiday!

FAN Opening Social/Film Festival
Saturday, September 10, 12pm-3pm
Join us for a relaxed potluck lunch followed by the screening of several enjoyable and family-friendly short films. This is "screen time" with a purpose! Let's show our kids that big ideas can be expressed in short bursts of creativity that can be fun and inspire deeper thinking. Use this experience to fuel your education at home: see what ideas your own kiddos have and want to express.
Help us make this event a success! New families (and old!) are welcome and encouraged to volunteer. Sign up here.

PEC Make-up Workshops!

Collaborative Program families are invited to attend but fulfill their requirement with Student Led Conferences for each work journal.
