Annual Giving Campaign & Chevron Matching Challenge

Next month, we will formally kick off Da Vinci Schools' Annual Giving Campaign -- our top fundraising priority and the fundraiser we ask EVERY family to support. This year, we are excited to announce that Chevron has generously donated $50,000 to Da Vinci Schools in the form of a matching challenge. Every donation and pledge to the Annual Giving Campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Chevron up to $50,000!!

Pledges must be made by Dec. 31 and paid by June 1, 2013 in order to be eligible for the match.

Gifts to the Annual Giving Campaign touch every K-12 student in the Da Vinci community and help bridge the gap between what the state provides and what it really costs to deliver an outstanding education.

By the second week of October, all currently enrolled K-12 families should receive an Annual Giving packet in the mail containing an appeal letter, pledge card and return envelope.

Please give what you can. Every gift makes a difference!

Annual Gifts. Daily Impact.

For more information or to volunteer for the Annual Giving Campaign, please contact Carla Levenson at clevenson@davincischools.org.

Elective Update

While new beginnings generally take some time to get settled, we another amazing "first" at the Da Vinci Innovation Academy. We have now had two very exciting first days of electives!

  • The AdventurePlex staff was impressed with our students and program!
  • Our amazing CPM teacher, Korey Hlaudy, taught every level of CPM today!
  • Cordula and Heather's classes have already made works of art on the first day!
  • Yoga and Chess were a blast and we enjoyed seeing students' new dance moves and hear their newly acquired Spanish!
  • Kids engaged in really fun sports play and showed great teamwork and sportsmanship!

Being in a new space always presents new opportunities and challenges; here are a couple of adjustments to improve the running of our program for next week:

Drop Off & Pick Up

We heard you say that this process could go smoother and quicker. As you know, students' safety is our top concern. Here are a couple of adjustments for this coming week; we will keep you posted if other changes are needed:

  • Core 4 and 5 parents are welcome to sign a release form allowing their child to meet them outside of AdventurePlex. Students still must sign out with Kelly Ann so that she knows they're leaving.
  • We will open the parking lot for morning drop off. Please drive with extreme caution and have patience with folks reversing and turning around.

Class Availability and Changes

  • Class changes are still being accepted this week, if you or your child would like to switch spaces, you can do so this week.
  • We need at least 5 students to run a class. Classes with fewer than 5 students will be closed.
  • Classes being closed will be announced on Friday, September 14th. If your child's class is canceled, we will place your child into his or her second choice.
  • Please, send class changes to Kelly Ann or Nancy Rosenburg.

Lunch Reminder

What we are still working on:

  • Ways to improve Scholar Club.
  • A good deal for those of you who want to stay and use the fun climbing structures.

Thank you for your patience as we work out the kinks in this new adventure!

Other ideas or suggestions? You know where to find us :)

Parent Resource Site

Did your student just read a fascinating book and is eager to share a review with the DVIA Community? Perhaps they wrote a poem or created a wordle. We would love submissions for Kid's Corner. And you can have it double duty as a work sample for the Parent Work Journal! Please email Lisa Grady at lisa.grady7@gmail.com.

If you have additional resources you would like to share or a suggestion for making the resource site more valuable to the DVIA community, please email Lisa Grady at lisa.grady7@gmail.com. Any technical issues can be addressed to Tasneem Sutarwala at tsutarwala@verizon.net.

Core 5 camp is just around the corner! Please visit www.davincik8.org for the Camp RSVP form and the Parent Informational Packet.

Any money you can pay now for CORE 4 or CORE 5 camp would be greatly appreciated!  Please see Brianne in the DVIA front office to pay with cash, check (made payable to Da Vinci Schools) or credit card (a 2.75% service fee will apply when using a credit card)

If you have any further questions about either of the MSA camping trips, please reach out to our science camp chairperson Kristie Wakefield at kristiewakefield@verizon.net.

As a reminder, we are happy to offer our drop off and pick up valet service in front of the school in the mornings and afternoons. For safety purposes, please don't park in the red zones and make sure that you only drive northbound between 8:45-9:15 am and 3:00-3:30 pm.

Get Involved

FAN council members will contact you in the coming weeks to engage you in the various opportunities. For anyone who missed the signups, the initial signup links are listed below. We will continue to use Signup Genius to post new opportunities.  Please note that volunteer opportunities may shift as we gain greater clarity on actual needs, so thanks in advance your flexibility. There are plenty of service opportunities, so find the one that calls to you! :)
