A Few Words From Our Director

Hello Everyone!

We've got a lot going on this week! I am excited to see all of you at our Parent Educator Conference #2 on Wednesday and our 7th and 8th graders are going to Catalina tomorrow! Here are a few others things I would love you to know about:

Can you help us by collect Box Tops for Education? One of our awesome parents, Tina Brogi, collects and sends them in and so far this year we've raised $43 and that's with very few parents participating. If you can check your cupboards and drop off your box tops in the front office (or even hand them to us at drop-off/pick-up!) that would be awesome! You can find them on all these brands! Also, if you subscribe to the boxtops account here, you will automatically give us 5 free box tops! But you have to do it by September 30th! It's a free way to help! Thanks!

You will notice that the battle of the grass is still on! Last week we received a surprise delivery of free sod from the Wiseburn district. We are giving it one last effort this year. Some astute kiddos wisely asked, "Ummm, shouldn't they have done that this summer?" Well kids, we tilled the soil and planted seed this summer and it only took part way. The sod was free so we figured why not!? We appreciate your help keeping the grass feet free for a few weeks. It will hopefully pay off when kids aren't playing in a dust bowl by November!

One last thing...when you pack your lunch for PEC on Wednesday, try to think of the experience through your child's lens. We sometimes forget what it feels like to break for lunch during a long, learning-filled day and find out lunch to be uninspiring. Or maybe it tastes good at the time but it leaves us hungry again an hour later or needing an afternoon nap because there wasn't a great carb/protein balance... I encourage you to experience a brown-bag lunch from your kiddos' perspective on Wednesday.

Thank you and enjoy your week!

A Message From Our Dean of Students

Hi Families!

Core 4 just returned from an incredible 3 days at AstroCamp in Idyllwild! Along with community and team-building exercises, our 5th and 6th grade students ventured into the world of astronomy by visiting the on site planetarium, participated in microgravity simulations by building satelites under water, learned about the electromagnetic spectrum through a lights and lasers course, experienced remote sensing by venturing through the dark maze, and challenged themselves on the ropes course through experiences like the Vine Walk and Sky Coaster!
It was a jam-packed three days, and I am so proud of our students for taking risks, going on adventures, and supporting each other through it all. Check out some pictures below! I can't wait to do it again next week as our 7th and it graders head off to camp on Catalina Island!

Have a great week!

What you need to know this week:

Raffle Donations Still Wanted!
It's not too late to donate! Do you have unwanted gift cards or gently-used games, books, etc. around the house? We're having a raffle at our next Parent Educator Conference on Wednesday, and we need items to raffle. Maybe you have a service you can offer? Leave your donations at the front desk. Thank you!

Scooter's Jungle Fundraiser
Tuesday, 9/29 | 5-8 pm
We have a few spots left for the ever-popular Scooter's Jungle Fundraiser! All cores are welcome to purchase tickets in the front office, using cash, checks or credit cards.

Pizza, water and bake sale items will be sold at the event. We need volunteers to help donate items and run the bake sale. Please use this sign up to donate or volunteer. Thank you!

Cores 4-5 are invited to the 9/29 event, but there will also be a separate Core 4-5 Scooter's Jungle night in October!

Parent Educator Conference #2
Wed, Sept 30th | 9:15am-2:15pm
PEC #2 is this week at the Hawthorne Memorial Center (same location as PEC #1). Please bring a sack lunch to enjoy with your fellow parent educators. We will have Sparkletts dispensers, but please bring your own cup or bottle.

We will also have a Resource Exchange and a Raffle at our conference. Bring your gently used learning resources to share and pick up something different. The Raffle will be held during the Closing Session. There will be amazing resources to win and a few fun surprises. Everyone will receive a raffle ticket when they sign in in the morning.

We will send the schedule out early this week!

Do you wish that you had access to the educator tools on BrainPop? Great news! We've been able to add more educator accounts to our BrainPop subscriptions. Email Janette for login details. Please note, BrainPop is freely accessible to all students without an educator account being set up. Some parents requested access to the extra educator tools.
