Greetings DVIA Families!

A Few Words From Our Director
(please note that the title of "Principal" was changed to "School Director" for all of the Da Vinci Schools)

Greetings Families!

I'd like to take a moment to address a topic that Tyler and I are aware of and are developing an action plan to address. During lunchtime play, students have been engaging in more and more "unsafe play." Whether it's due to the hot weather or students settling in and feeling more comfortable with each other, we have noticed an increase in unsafe play. Games of "cops vs. robbers" have morphed into "boys vs. girls," play equipment have been used for riskier-type uses and many many conversations have taken place around not using toys as weapons (swords, fake guns, etc).

Tyler and I want you to know that student safety and well-being (physical, emotional and academic) is our number one priority. We take this topic seriously and are addressing unsafe play as it happens, as are classroom teachers and other staff on duty during playtime. We are also looking at limiting some play spaces and types of games and creating/providing alternative activities.

I would also like to share that every day we see amazing examples of students helping, encouraging and cheering each other on, checking in after accidental bumps and acknowledging each other's efforts. During gaga ball last week, I saw a student immediately pause the game, check a student's hand, escort her outside the game, and then call the game back into action. Amazing! We love this about our students and our school and will continue to work towards fostering more and more of these habits!

If you have thoughts on various play activities or alternatives or wish to donate additional equipment, make playdough, host a craft station, etc. during outside playtime, please contact Tyler.

Thank you for your support and enjoy your week!

Tyler's Two Cents

tyler two cents Families,

It's that time again. For the month of October, we will be focusing on the Habit of Exploration. We are asking families to submit student work samples related to the Habit of Exploration and what it means to them. We are titling this month "Open October" since we will be accepting any type of work sample that is related to the Habit of Exploration. This could range from a narrative story, to a picture, to a poem, to an essay, etc. Please email me with submissions of your student's work by October 15th.

Have a great week!

Cores 4/5 Ball Pit Project
Date and time TBA
This semester, our Core 4 and 5 students are facilitating a project based upon Human Rights violations and defenders. Our students have been inspired by human rights defenders to inform the community about violations of human rights. In order to bring awareness and spark conversations, we will have two or more participants sit in a ball pit and discuss human rights using the questions provided. They will be printed on some of the balls inside. We invite you to participate in this event for eye-opening discussions and experiences. The date, time and location will be announced once it is available. Stay tuned for more info on this great project!
