Greetings, DVIA Families!
A Few Words from Our Principal

It was really great seeing some Da Vinci families at the showing of Screenagers hosted at Redondo High School last week. The film helped my family (adults and kiddos included) really think differently about screen time and social media in our home and in our greater community. If you missed this opportunity (or heard how great it was and wished you went), there's another chance just around the corner! The Willows Community School is holding a screening and panel discussion on January 10th from 7:00-9:30pm. Please see this link for more information and to register for this free event!

Congratulations, LEGO Robotics Teams!
Congrats to current DVIA students Derrick Boston, III, and Kian Sutarwala and former student Milissa Sutton, whose Lego robotics team - the Rebel Builders - had big fun at the recent LA qualifying tournament! The Rebel Builders were awarded 2nd place for their research project on rhino poaching and advanced to the LA Region Championship Tournament. Good luck to the Rebel Builders!
Best wishes to Xavier Ballard, Tensaye Ballard, Noah Chan, and former DVIA students Jacob Wallis and Natalie Wallis who will also be advancing to the Los Angeles Regional Championship Tournament on December 11, 2016. Their Lego robotics team, the Masterminds, won 1st place robot performance and champion's awards at their qualifying tournament. The students on this team are researching ways to stabilize and rehabilitate wildlife impacted by inland oil spills.

Congratulations to Makenzie Ashford, Jack Nelson, Momo Katsuta, and Matthan Lu, all part of team Robo Tech Heroes. They placed 3rd in the qualifying tournament with an additional honor of best robot design nomination. They were invited to move on to the regional tournament, but instead the team is opting to participate in a scrimmage tournament at Legoland in January! Go Robo Tech Heroes!

Recycle and Help Our Monarchs
Please bring in your recyclable bottles and cans to help with the purchase of milkweed for our very hungry monarch caterpillars. They can be placed right inside the chalk door. Thank you!

We're continuing Daniel Pink's A Whole New Mind.
Last month, we discussed Part 1; this month, we'll read chapters 4-6. Everyone is invited to join in!
We chose this book as it will give you some ideas for inspiring right-brained thinking in your kiddo. The next two books club meetings will focus on 3 different strategies.
Curriculum Corner
Important ST Math news for Google Chrome users!
On December 6th, Google will release a new version of the Chrome browser. When you choose to upgrade to this version of Chrome, it will ask for confirmation before running any Flash programs, including ST Math. You should only have to allow ST Math to run once for each user profile. Watch this video for what this will look like.
Compassionate Corner
We want to remind you that all DVIA families receive FREE access to each of the EdNextGen webinars that Jason and Cecilia Hilkey of Happily Family hosted. This includes both last spring and this fall's conferences! Stop by the front office or email us for login information. (Please note the password changes frequently.)
Do You Know...
...the home page of the new DVIA Resource site includes information about non-DVIA community events? Go check out some great ideas!

Have a great week!
