Kindness Movement

The Kindness Movement, conceptualized by FAN families and DV Connect counselor Kenè Washington, is a program that seeks ways to empower students and families to embrace and connect with themselves, other DV Connect students and families, and their community and environment at large. Its mission is to provide opportunities to practice acts of kindness, empathy, and mindfulness as well as our other core values of reflection, exploration, collaboration, flexibility, and perseverance.

👟Current Project: Annual Start-of-School Shoe Drive!

Welcome back to school everyone! It’s a new school year with new school gear! Are you wondering what to do with those shoes that don’t quite fit anymore? The Kindness Movement will be having a shoe drive starting Monday, September 9th, and continuing on through October! There will be a turquoise bin in the office to collect your new or gently worn adult and children’s shoes! These shoes will then be donated to a school in Guatemala, where many children walk to school on unpaved roads without shoes! Time for some “fall cleaning” for an awesome cause, and a wonderful opportunity to practice empathy (this month’s Habit of Heart and Mind) with our kiddos! Thank you so much!

Update as of October 11th: Thank you to everyone for all of your very generous shoe donations for our annual shoe drive!  We have collected over 50 pairs of shoes…and counting!  The Kindness Movement shoe drive will be ending this week, and in it’s place will be a candy collection bin for our troops!  Please bring in all of your extra Halloween candy to the front office, and place them in the purple bin!💜
