The Kindness Movement, conceptualized by FAN families and DV Connect counselor Kenè Washington, is a program that seeks ways to empower students and families to embrace and connect with themselves, other DV Connect students and families, and their community and environment at large. Its mission is to provide opportunities to practice acts of kindness, empathy, and mindfulness as well as our other core values of reflection, exploration, collaboration, flexibility, and perseverance.

Annual Start-of-School Shoe Drive

Your kindness and generosity have resulted in over 80 pairs of new or gently worn adult and children’s shoes donated so far! Thank you!

Candy Collection for Armed Forces, November 1st-15th

Wondering what to do with extra candy that may have worked its way into your house this season? Please bring in all of your extra Halloween candy to the front office and place it in the purple bin to be donated to the troops!

November 13th – World Kindness Day

Support the Making Kindness the Norm movement. Kindness can increase energy and happiness as well as decrease stress and anxiety. Below are some resources to help you explore ways to be Kind at home and in your community. Be on the lookout for the “The Science of Kindness” display at the DV Connect Science Showcase (the same week as World Kindness Day).

Join us in practicing some random acts of kindness (see resources above for ideas).

November 4th-22nd – Gratitude Tree Project

Gratitude is another amazing practice that can improve your overall well being and decrease stress and depression. Join us in practicing Gratitude throughout the month of November by adding why you are grateful for DV Connect to the Gratitude Tree that will be located on the fence near the amphitheater. If you are interested in helping support the maintenance of the Gratitude Tree during November, sign-up here

*Searching for opportunities of giving
*Christmas caroling, hot cocoa, and ornament-making at senior home.

Movie night- Kindness is Contagious.

*February 29th- Talent Showcase- Song by Kindness Movement (True Colors) or children’s choir- empowering song by Jessica Collaço.


*March 17th- Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Parade at 11 am.
*Rose’s birthday celebration at senior home.


*Easter Sunday, April 12th- Bunny Drop at shelter for women and children.
*April 22nd- Earth Day!- Recycling program, beach clean-up, seal rescue center. Display all week at entrance of school to bring awareness.
*Poetry Jam- Reflections of Kindness.


*Cup o’ Caterpillars Drive for CHLA- butterfly release ceremony and celebration Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
